Primary School Overview
British education has achieved a worldwide reputation for excellence in quality, breadth and transferability.
In common with other international British schools, the Prague British School follows the Foundation Stage (3-5 years) and National Curriculum for England (5-11 years).
They take account of the fact that each child has individual learning needs and abilities in different areas of the curriculum. At the Prague British School, where children arrive with a range of previous educational experience, we consider this particularly important. Both give overall expectations for learning at different ages, but have the flexibility to ensure that children of high ability are challenged at an appropriate level, and those who find an area more difficult are supported to consolidate learning fully before moving on.

Foundation stage Introduction
The foundation stage is a distinct phase of education for children aged 3-5.
The Foundation Stage covers the F1 (Nursery) through to F2 (Reception class) and offers a carefully integrated two year programme of learning. The philosophy underpinning the Foundation Stage curriculum is that learning should be planned and structured with an emphasis on fun, relevant and motivating activities. Six key areas of learning are addressed:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Mathematical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development
At this stage, young children are developing rapidly and the Foundation Stage curriculum helps to maximise on this potential. Children vary greatly in their maturity in different areas of development and their learning and development needs are carefully planned/considered to take account of individual achievements and needs.
At The Prague British School we aim to nurture and build upon the natural energy, enthusiasm, curiosity and sense of humour of children. In the Foundation Stage, we provide a variety of well resourced play opportunities to include imaginative play, designing and constructing, investigating and exploring, creative activities and energetic play, both inside and outside. Through these experiences:
- children's language is enriched;
- their understanding of the natural and built world is extended;
- physical abilities and co-ordination is developed;
- levels of concentration and persistence are raised.
Staff support children’s learning and work closely together to provide the children with a well-planned and resourced curriculum, to take their learning forward and provide opportunities for all children to succeed, in a safe setting where they can feel valued.
