The plan to develop and open a bilingual primary school originated in the 2004/2005 academic year. That year, a primary school with extended language education referred to as Alea Elementaria – ZŠ s rozšířenou výukou jazyků, spol. s r.o. came into existence.
In 2005/2006, Alea Elementaria started its activities in Prague – Kamýk by opening Classes 1 and 2 (Years 2 and 3), and the capacity of both classes was immediately filled up to 80%. With opening of Class 3 (Year 4) in September 2007, the maximum allowed capacity of the school was filled up. This proves the great interest of parents in our school, which is a sister school of the British International School and its successor, the Prague British School, and applies all modern educational and teaching methods while using the experience of the British educational system. English language lessons and an individual approach towards pupils forms an integral part of this. For many parents whose children attended or have been attending language and international schools, our school is a natural conclusion and the right type of primary school where children continue their education.
At the end of 2007, the title of the school was changed to Česko Britská Základní Škola, s.r.o.(CBZS).
Thanks to the above mentioned facts and the increasing interest in our school among parents in Prague 6, the need to open a branch in Prague 6 was also growing. In the 2008/2009 academic year, CBZS also opened a Class 1 (Year 2) in Prague 6 – Vlastina.
A further step in the development of CBZS was the opening of a Preparatory Class for pre-school children and children with postponed compulsory education. CBZS opened this bilingual Preparatory Class of the primary school or Czech Year 1, which corresponds to the British Year 1 as regards the curriculum, concurrently in both its branches (Prague 4 and 6) in the 2009/2010 academic year.
With every new academic year, CBZS opened the subsequent years up to Class 5 (Year 6). In the 2009/2010 academic year, the CBZS in Prague 4 was completed, i.e. all 5 Classes (Years 2 – 6) were opened there. At the branch in Prague 6, Class 5 (Year 6) will be opened in the 2012/2013 academic year.
In September 2010, CBZS increased the target capacity of the school to nearly 300 pupils. Thanks to this fact, pupils with Czech nationality who are concurrently pupils of the Primary School at PBS may satisfy their compulsory school attendance pursuant to Section 38 of the Education Act.
