Introduction

The concept of the Czech British Primary School (Česko Britská Základní Škola, CBZS) was developed on the basis of an analysis of the current situation of the Czech and British educational systems and an analysis of experience from both systems. We took inspiration from the development of the educational system in Great Britain as well as the traditions of the educational system in our country. It is a primary school where selected subjects are taught in English.

At our school, we care about the high academic level of pupils, which is achieved through a properly selected and well-balanced curriculum. We strive to keep classes small to ensure an individual approach to pupils and their support in all curricular and extra-curricular areas. This approach helps us to be successful in developing the individual uniqueness of children and concurrently achieving their all-round development. We make efforts to bring children up to be composed, responsible and independently-thinking members of our society who are proud not only of their school, but also of the country where they live.

Our bilingual teachers are fully qualified for the creatively-oriented educational concept, especially in some parts of the programme, preferring an individual approach to students based on knowledge and understanding of pupils, their individual uniqueness and also their needs and educational objectives. In this challenging work, teachers are supported by experienced assistants who are also bilingual. The English language is taught daily under the EAL (English as an Additional Language) programme by English lecturers/teachers – native speakers.

At our school, we pay attention to pupils' good manners, trying to instil the importance of mutual consideration, truthfulness and friendship in them. Pupils at the school are under the continuous supervision of teachers and assistants, including during breaks. Through “circle time sessions”, we discuss topics with children that immediately concern them and that they may meet with in their life (e.g. loneliness, fears, misunderstandings, exclusion from a community, disease in a family, bullying, etc.), trying in this way to prevent negative phenomena that have been increasingly occurring at many schools nowadays.

Our intention is to provide opportunities for our students to become bilingual, i.e. to master not only their mother tongue, but also a foreign language at an proficient level and, after having completed the Primary School, to be fully ready to continue their studies at the Senior School at PBS or any other eight-year senior school in the Czech Republic. At the British Senior School, they may complete their studies with the International Baccalaureate (IB) exam at the age of 18, obtaining the “International Baccalaureate Diploma” which allows them entrance not only to local universities but also to universities around the world.

In this way, we would like to open a space for developing a new form of school that will fully equal other schools in the European Union, or even probably out-perform them in the future.

Our Definition of Learning

Learning is a long-term process lasting our whole lives. In the course of it we acquire, consolidate and classify all relations from various areas of our life. We learn best when we find sense and joy in it.

Our Vision

“At the Czech British Primary School we ensure quality education for children speaking fluent Czech, not only from Czech but also international communities. We try to promote school spirit and joy in teaching and learning, while concurrently supporting their academic, social and personal growth.”

Our Message

  • where problems are discussed without fear and openly, and where compassion and the ability to forgive exist
  • where everybody has the same chances and where smart and inquiring opinions are developed
