It was a pleasure to host the large touring busload of 48 students for the second year running.

05.03.10 Floorball v EISP

On Friday 5th of March our intrepid under 14 mixed floorball team headed off to EISP for the 2010 tournament. Four schools were competing and our 1st match was against EISP. We started well and it was 2-1 to PBS at half time. Our competition in this match was very tough, and we conceeded a few goals to the experienced opposition. We tried desperately to score another goal to level the score but unfortunately we didn’t capatalize on our opportunities.
The final score was 3-2. In the next game v ISP we played very well. We scored four goals against their one. Adam and our captain Jakub shared the assists and the goals.
Our last game was v Riverside school and we won 6-1. Adam Spano was our player of the tournament, yet all players played well and deserve recognition. These included, our captain Jakub Nietsch, Denis Prinus, Simon Toman, Allesandro Fanin, Petra Kroupova, Jan Fian, and Thomas Loddo in goal.
Our overall placing out of four schools was 2nd. All our players enjoyed the tournament this year and all communicated well and played exceptionally well as a team.
03.03.10 Basketball

The boys basketball team competed in a tournament at ISP on Wednesday March 3rd. The other two teams there were ISP and EISP. PBS competed its first game against ISP and won the match easily with a score of 36-12. The team played excellent defense and played well together on offense. In the second game against EISP the boys won 34-31. This game was much closer as PBS was unable to extend the lead past 10 points. EISP made a late run but PBS was able to hold them off for the victory and win the tournament outright!
10.02.10 Basketball v ISP

On Wednesday the 10th of February our basketballing elite came up against a competitive ISP (International School of Prague) team.
The match started with early errors due to pre match nerves, however we settled a little quicker and started to place some shots from simple passes that were close to the net. At half time the score was 23-21.
We then found our footing and started to dominate. Great passing, counter attack breaks, and defence was the key. The final score was 64-33. Khang top scored with 17 points. The fitness, persistence, and relentless pressure from from our team was brilliant. Full credit to our coach Mr. Nelson for taking the team a step further from last year, and for our boys putting the hours into practice. The hard work reeped the rewards!
11.12.09 Football team tour to Manchester
The boys u14 football team arrived back on the 8th of December after an excellent six day tour to Manchester.
All enjoyed a two hour training session at an official Manchester City football club training complex. The boys also played football against two local schools. We came up against some strong competition and unfortunately lost both games. Our spirits were raised though when we went to watch a live premier league match between Man City and Chelsea. We all enjoyed the great spectacle on the pitch as the match itself was a very attacking one from both sides. We also went to the Manchester museum and had a tour around the old railyards. The trip was a success and all involved had a great time. All the boys were well behaved and the trip was one to remember. A Manchester City football shirt will be framed and displayed in the open plan E Block with a few photos and the boys signatures.

7.11.2009 U 18 boys football tournament
On the 7th of November our u18 boys team went head to head with the u18 Riverside team in the Prague International schools tournament.
Unfortunately two other schools couldnt make it, so we were in a straight final.
Much to everyones delight, the game went on for a lengthy 70 minutes. We started strong and passed the ball around in the mid very well.
We scored quickly and then Riverside responded with 2 simple goals.
After reshaping our defence, we came back strong and continued to improve throughout the game.
The eventual result was 7-3 to us. Boys who had outstanding games were, Dan Marino, Frank Stary, Dima Prinus, and our captain Honza Katuscak.
Another trophy in the PBS cabinet, well done boys!
2.11 - 6.11. 2009 u18 boys and u16 girls football teams trip to Milan

On Tuesday the 2nd of November till November the 6th the u18 boys and u16 girls football teams embarked on an exciting trip to Milan, Italy. The 11 strong boys team was accompanied by the first ever PBS girls touring team. Five girls went along with the boys to enjoy the experience as well.

21.10.09 U16 Girls football tournament

The under 16 year old girls had a very successful international schools tournament.
Having won the four school tournament that we hosted last year, expectations were high. The girls had been training hard with Ms. McBurnie every Tuesday after school and were ready. This year only EISP could come to the tournament. So we played them in a longer match. Our girls started a bit nervously but then we settled and started to pass the ball around more. It was a very even game and EISP scored before half time. Dominika then scored for us 5 minutes before full time. We went to a penalty shoot out which was a fun experience for the girls. Ivanna scored for us, and then EISP scored. It all came down to Elis, if she scored the penalty then she won the game, and… she did!
It is very pleasing to see that the girl’s standard is getting better and better each year. It was a good build up match for their trip to Milan.
30.9.09 U16 Prague International Schools football Tournament
On Wednesday the 30th of September, our u16 boys football team came together to defend the 2008 crown. Last year our A team came 1st and our B team came 2nd out of five schools and seven teams. This year the tournament was staged at PBS and we had 3 schools participating.
Our 1st match was against EISP and we won 5-0. Zelim scored 2 and played very well up front with an outstanding goal from a corner. James also shot a 35 yarder straight into the top right corner. Dan captained the team very well, and this showed as our play was built on passing the ball around and slowly getting it up the field to score. Ahmed and Jakub also scored. Our 2nd match was a closer one, however our boys still dominated as the final outcome was 2-0. Goals were scored by Zelim and Jakub. Our PBS boy of the tournament was Jakub who saved some incredible shots at goal and earned himself a place in the u18 team to play on Monady the 12th. Well done u16’s!

21.9.09 Football v English College

On Monday the 21st of September our PBS 1st XI squad of 18 went to our rival school ECP to play a full football match.
We started slowly and ECP banged in a goal. Frank and Emil, (on his debut ) teamed up well and Frank crossed for an Emil header. ECP then scored directly after half time, and then with 5 minutes to go we sored a goal as well. We also had a few chances to win the match in the last 5 minutes, as did they. On the whole Mr. Newton and Mr. Taufer thought we played well against a strong team, and also a physically bigger team. Dan was our man of the match, and Emil, Honza and Dan were solid in the mid. Dimitrije also had an outstanding performance, as did Ivan, Dima, and Zelim.
Final score 2-2.
12.09.09 Prague International Schools tennis competition.

On Saturday the 12th of September Denis, Petra, Daniel, Kristina, and Nicolette entered the 2009 Prague International Schools tennis competition.
The open age group tournament was automatic elimination for the 24 competitors . The level of tennis was high and unfortunately Daniel, Kristina, and Nicolette were knocked out in the 1st round. Petra made the final with a 6:1 6:1 win in the first round and a 6:0 6:0 win in the second. Petra faced the same oponent she faced in last years final and won easily 6:0 6:0. Petra played powerfully and outclassed all her competition.
Denis also made the final with 6:1 6:1 and 6:0 6:0 wins in earlier rounds. Denis also came up against the same oponent as last year. Denis came 2nd last year to Filip from ECP, so he was very determined to win. In a glorious battle between two well practiced tennis players, it was Denis‘ turn to shine, he wanted it more and from breaking Filips serve in the 1st game, Denis held on to win 6:4. In the 2nd set, Denis was winning 2:0 and Filip fought back to a 4:2 lead, and then through unforced errors made by the oponent and also by playing the waiting game, Denis won 6:4. It was a great visual spectacle and a true final in every way. Both played well, yet Denis‘ fighting spirit never gave up. Denis was dubbed Denis“Michael Chang“Salnikov by the event organiser.
The victorys were a true testiment to both Petra and Denis‘ tough training schedule and also there long serving commitment to the game. It was a very sweet moment for PBS sport!

On Friday 29th May PBS had a visit from four sports teams on an under 16‘s sports teams tour from The Galaren Health & Sports School, Sweden.
The PE department placed teams in the following sports; mixed tennis, basketball, and boys and girls football.
Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us and we had to abandon the tennis, however our boys football team won 4-3, our basketballers won 54-35 and our girls football team played well but came up against some very strong competition and lost 1-8.
The day was capped of nicely as the Swedish touring teams also attended the summer ball at PBS.
The following students competed, Denis S, Daniel T, Petra K, Kristyna S,Khang, Jimi, Sharom, Ki Hun, David, Kim, Kang, Hyun Kyu, Hyung Sup, Mia Nguyen, Marsha, Dominika, Klara, Danai, Elis, Ivanna Y, Iryna.

12.3.09 Basketball, PBS v EISP

Last Thursday our confident basketballers took on our neighbours from EISP.
We started well and maintained the advantage throughout the game. We made some poor passes and played a little slowly. We relied heavily on Ki Hun who had four fouls. We managed to hang on to a 27-21 victory. We will need to put on a much better performance next week in our final match of the season versus the Sparta Praha U16 team.
6.-7.3.09 Basketball
On March the 6th and 7th 2009, the schools best basketballers went down to Salzburg to compete in a five school European tournament. We played schools from Budapest, Viena, and Bratislava as well as Salzburg.
In total, 6 girls teams and 5 boys teams played. The sports complex in Salzburg was amazing and catered to everyones needs. The teams we came up against were all generally four years older than us, and as they were older this meant that they were a lot taller as well! We came within ten points against two teams, 15 points against another, and lost to the champion school Budapest by 24. We did however walk away with our heads up and proud of our achievments as again all the competing schools fielded older, taller and more experienced players. We played well throughout the entire tournament and the tour away finished our season on a high note. Next year, 12 school tournament in Budapest!

4.2.2009 u18 Basketball v ISP

On Wednesday before half term, our PBS u18 team had a crucial game in the linternational school league against ISP.
Both teams got off to a nervous start and then ISP capitalized on our simple marking mistakes and kept a 8/10 point lead throughout the whole match. We made a few changes in the team and being only 6 points down with 4 minutes to go, we realized that if we dug a little deeper we could win the match. With the home support screaming with every home basket, it lifted our spirits and with a few quick steals from Kim and Hyun Gyu, we gained the lead with 1 minute to go for the first time in the game. We held on to this lead and kept our cool. The team and support on our sideline was ecstatic.
The eventual score was PBS 43 - ISP 41.
Khang at point guard played a well controlled game offloading the ball a lot which was great, and Ki Hun, Sinisa and Kang all played solid roles throughout. The experience of Kim and Hyun Gyu showed at the end as they kept their heads and won the match for us. Well done PBS!
29.1.2009 u18 Basketball v Riverside

Our u18 PBS basketballers came up against some tough competition in their first match of the season. We played well in the first quarter with the score helld at 17-17.We then struggled after the the first quarter with big holes in our defence. We lacked quality passes and simple mistakes saw Riverside take advantage. We were happy that we progressed and didnt give up, eventually Riverside took a well deserved win with the score being 70-37.

Skiing and Snowboarding competition

For more pictures, please click here
On the 16th and 17th of January four of our boys participated in a skiing and snowboarding competition in Pec pod Snezkou in the Krkonose mountains.
Our boys left on Friday together with five other school teams. The first ski run on Saturday morning was at 1030am and the second run was at 130pm. The fastest combined time decided the winner. The ski course had 30 gates and all gates were 10 meters apart. Bohdan had the fastest time after the first run but unfortunately fell in the second. At the end of the day Oliver finished 5th in the snowboarding, Frank finished 3rd in the snowboarding, and Honza second on skis. All in all everyone had a good time away and we are hoping to do the same next year.
5.12.2008 u16 Floorball

On Friday the 5th of December our u16 floorball team went to EISP to play in a four school tournament with ECP, Riverside, and EISP.
We had a terrific combination on attack and in the mid field with Milan (our captain) and Bohdan. Both these boys were offered to study and play ice hockey in Canada. So they took their wealth of experience into the floorball tournament and played extremely well with Max, Frank, Marek, Honza, Jacub B, Norman, and Jacub N. We won all three matches 4-1. The boys were elated as they scored some phenomenal goals. Max, Milan and Bohdan all played a great team game as they passed the ball well, and Marek and Frank were solid on defence as usual. All in all a great afternoon was had by all and the boys really enjoyed playing and the cleen sweep victory was the cherry on the cake. Congratulations to Bohdan our player of the tournament.

1.12.2008 table tennis tournament

On Monday the 1st of December PBS entered a strong table tennis team into the 2nd Prague International Schools table tennis competition. Five international schools arrived for the competition. Our team did very well as Leilei,(our captain), Frank, and Mary played exceptionally well. The games were played 1st to 11 points and the best of 3 sets. Lei was our first seed and he came up against some very tough competition and won only 1 match out of 4 (all close games!) Frank won 2 out of 4 and I'm sure he enjoyed the on court battles he played. The boys then played in doubles matches and won 1 out of 3, again, very close games.
Mary on the other hand, (our top seeded girl) won all four of her games and got the maximum score of 12 points to become the Prague International Schools Champion girl for 2008! Well done Mary.
12.11.2008 PBS swimmers

The first ever Prague International Schools Swimming Sports took place at the 'Radlice' 25m pool on Wednesday the 12th of November 2008. All of the PBS team were excited about the prospect of racing students from other schools. The PBS PE dept team prepared programmes for the event and after a warm up the first of the heats got under way. After eight heats, the finals were then called to the blocks. Students competed in two age groups; under 14's and then the open age group in both girls and boys events. Two students from each school had the chance to swim in three events out of five and then both mixed relays. As it was a sprint championship, the events included 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m, breastroke, 50m freestyle, 100m individual medley, and then the 4 x 25m mixed medley and freestyle relays.
All PBS students tried the hardest they could and we saw some terrific races in the pool. Standouts that won most of their events and really battled it out in the pool were the following students, Michelle B (our team captain) in the 100IM and 50m freestyle and breastroke, Michal K, in the 50m Butterfly, 50m breastroke, and 100IM, and Nick J in the 50m freestlye, and the 100Im, and also Ondrej H who won the 50m backstroke and 50m breastroke.
The final points totals were, EISP:16 points, GSP:24points, ISP:44 points, ECP: 76 points and PBS: 104 points. Michelle accepted the winning team trophy on behalf of our team. Well done all PBS swimmers!

10.11.2008 ECP vs PBS - Under 18's

This was to be last game for a while and for some of the boys, their last game before the trip to Manchester. ECP had always proved to be a challenge for us, with a considerable age difference and their ability to use a full size pitch well. This game was to be no different.
PBS started the game rather lethargically and ECP were able to capitalise on this by netting the first. The muddy conditions certainly did not help our cause as the ball skidded off the surface and allowed their striker to slot home. More misery came our way as another defensive mix-up allowed ECP to go 2-0 up at half time, leaving our boys with a mammoth task.
Our usual victorious team were shell shocked but with some strong encouragement from all and some moral boosting words our boys came out in the second half looking like the team that we really are.
In the second half our passes began to flow. We got back into the game with Frank pressurizing the ECP defence and scoring our first goal.
PBS Pressure continued and, with 10 minutes left of the game, we got our breakthrough. After we had several shots saved, the ball came out to Sinisha and from 30 yards he pinpointed his shot straight into the top right corner. With the score now at 2-2 and our team peaking at the right time, we had real belief that we could go on and win the match. The pressure continued from our team and we were all waiting for that winning goal.
Football is a cruel game sometimes and as our team experienced. ECP broke and after a succession of successful passes they got the winning goal in the final moments of the game, breaking PBS hearts.
Man of the match was Dimitrje who was an inspiration in the heart of the defence. Not only did he defend well but he also played some excellent balls forward creating chances for our two strikers. With Manchester around the corner we have nothing to fear and we can be proud and have belief in ourselves and hopefully put on a real show against the two teams we will face in North West England.

6.11.2008 School tournament

On Thursday November the 6th, the u16 volleyball team played in a friendly three school tournament against EISP and ECP. This was the first competitive volleyball match for many students in all teams.
After a kind welcome from Mr. Smith, our first match was against ECP, it was quite a nail biting affair as we went down in the first set 25-23. ECP just edged us out of the second set 22-25 as well.
Our second match was vs EISP and our team gelled very nicely in the middle and set up some nice moves for Dimitrije to send a few difficult spikes towards the opposition. We won the first set 25-15 and in the second we won 25-18. All of our team improved a lot as the afternoon went on in particular Danai, Dominika and Hung. Hyun Min was the most improved player of the day, (and got the job of washing the team kit)! Marsha, Sony, and Marek played very solidly as well. In the end ECP came first, PBS second, and EISP third.
On the whole, the afternoon was an enjoyable one. We look forward to increased practice and improved performances in the future.

Inaugural u18 Prague International Schools Ambassadors Cup Tag Rugby Tournament |
A tag rugby match was held at PBS on Friday 31st. The PBS team played a select from ISP and the French school. Although this was the first time many of our students had played a competitive game of tag they got the hang of it very quickly and started with a quick try. The French/ISP team leveled and the scoring continued until it was three tries each.
Then we created an overlap on two occasions and scored two quick trys just after half time. We put the pressure on what was quickly becoming a physical game, a few unforced errors by the French and ISP team and our boys raced away with another quick tap off to score two more trys. The French/ISP team came back and the eventual score was 8-6 (in terms of tries) to PBS
Frank had a dazzling performance and ran some very good angles and with quick thinking he played a great game including a few tries. Dimitrije played well as he put everything into the game and motivated the team vocally very well. Sam, Honza, Marek and Geordan all played well, really showing the speed that they all have, as well as playing solidly on defence. Shane, Zelim and Dan also came on for a run and played a strong role too. All in all the team played well together and all enjoyed an afternoon of playing a completely different sport that is a good build up to the actual game of rugby.

21.10.08 Year 7 Football v EISP

The 15 match unbeaten run of all PBS football teams this year came to an end after a terrific match with the EISP Year 7 team. Despite a great deal of possession our team could not convert any of our opportunities and the PBS team lost 7 - 3.
On the whole it was a great clean game of football and all the boys enjoyed the sunny afternoon and 50 minutes of match time. Ondrej was our man of the match as he cleaned up a lot of loose ball in the midfield. Memmed and Lukas also played well.
20.10.2008 Under 18 football league

PBS travelled to the German school with a strong quad for the second league game of the season.
PBS got off to a great start - a beautiful through ball from Dan and a neat finish from Frank Stary put us 1 – 0 in front. The PBS team then dominated, racing into a 5 – 0 lead before the German school found away past Bohdan in goals.
With a four goal cushion at half time the team was aware that the game was not yet over, especially after our previous game against the German School. We went out fired up and thanks to another goal from Frank and two more from Norman and Honza the game was effectively over. Credit to the German school who came back in the last 10 minutes of the game to score three goals making the the final score 8-4.
This puts PBS top of the league after 6 games. Man of the match went to Frank who proved that he can be as effective in attack as he is in defence.

15.10.08 PBS vs Russian School Prague

Our first game in the league proved to be a physical one with both teams going out for the win. The game was played indoor on a hard surface with very small goals, making it tricky for either team to score. However, the deadlock was broken early on as the Russian School took the lead courtesy of an own goal. We quickly came back and equalised through Dan Marino, who on the day was our man of the match.
The half ended with the score at one each. We rotated the squad and gave everyone a chance to shine and in the second half they certainly did that. Great link up work from defence to attack saw Dan slot home his second goal of the afternoon making the score 2-1 to PBS.
Our hunger to win and our slick passing paid off as Dan played a neat ball through to Marek who calmly finished, making the score 3-1 and giving us a comfortable two goal cushion.
The Russian School quickly responded with a good strike making the score 3-2. A good defensive display from the team and some excellent saves from Bohdan saw us through for a 3-2 victory to send us top of the league.

3.10.2008 U15 football champions

The 2008 Prague International schools u15 Boys football tournament was hosted by Riverside at the CZU grounds in Prague 6 last Friday. All five international schools took part with PBS and Riverside fielding A and B teams.
The eight a side games were twenty minutes each and there were two groups, a group of three teams and a group of four teams. PBS B team won 1-0 and 1-0 in the pool matches against ECP and Riverside B. Some great play from Shane, James, Joe, Dominik and Memmed ensured that the road to the final was secured.
The pressure was on the PBS A team now to meet the PBS B team in the final. The A's had a tougher pool but won 2-0 against ISP with some good play from Geordan and Dan and solid defence from Norman. The second game vs EISP was a bit more of a challenge and we found ourselves 2-0 down at half time. After a team talk we were fired up and ready to capitalize on the high level of possession that we had in the first half. We did, and Norman scored a beautiful long range goal and then John set up a Norman double as he headed in a lovely goal. We drew 2-2 in this match and had to draw against Riverside in our final match to make the final. We managed to beat Riverside by 2 goals setting up an all PBS final!
All our footballers were wrapped with this and we couldn't believe that PBS were going to come 1st and 2nd. In the end the A team won 1-0. Bachti and Norman collected the trophies on behalf of the teams and Dan scooped the MVP award for the tournament, (most valuable player).Geordan played very well as well, showing some lightning pace and confidence with the ball, but on the whole a great team effort and a great afternoon out for PBS.

29.9.2008 Prague International Schools Girls Football Tournament

On Monday the 29th of September, PBS hosted the inaugural Prague International Schools Girls Football Tournament.
It was a beautiful sunny day and all competing schools, EISP, ECP, The German School and PBS were raring to go. The girls played round robin matches on half pitches 6v6. All teams played each other and then there was a full pitch playoff for 3rd and 4th and then a final. We won our group stage matches 1-0 vs EISP, Mia our captain scored our very first goal. It was 0-0 vs the German School and 2-0 vs ECP, both Elis and Mary scored. In the 3rd place playoff the German School played EISP, and after 20mins it was a 1-1 draw.
Our PBS girls finished top of the table and were in the final vs ECP. We went over a few last minute tactics and after a PBS chant our girls were ready! In the final there was a fair bit of nerves both on and off the field. But our girls took advantage of a few mistakes made and Aneta scored a great goal at the end of the first half by banging it in the corner making the tall ECP goal keeper dive to her right. We almost capitalized on a deflection in the second half to make it 2-0. We defended well in the second half and this ensured our win in the final.
It was great to see that hard work paid off in the end. The girls had five lunchtime practices and it was nice to see the hard work put in, paid off in the end.
Special mention must be made to all girls’ discipline on the field. Marsha played very solidly on defence with Danai and Elis and Dominika had great games in goal. Aneta L and Mary played well making good breaks up the field showing that all those football club afternoons paid off! Mia led the team by example giving a 100% effort in all situations and she even led with a smile as well.

So well done girls! Unbeaten!
The team that all played was as follows; Mia (captain),Camille, Ivanna Y, Dakalo (absent), Mary, Aneta L, Aneta G, Elis, Ivanna, Marsha, Dominika, Danai, Michelle B, Julia L, Martina B, Iryna Y.
26.9.2008 Football v the German School of Prague

We fielded a team that had a strong defence and a lightning fast midfield. After 10 minutes into the match we had raced to a 3-0 lead. Our strong defence, led by Norman in the middle, pushed forward linking well with Geordan and Honza in midfield. Dan also played as well as always in midfield. Bohdan did a great job in goal during the second half as did Jamie in the first. The lunchtime training sessions and increased number of fixtures are starting to show as we had a relaxed air of confidence that is growing with every game.
The final score was 5 – 3 for PBS – a great start to the year. Let’s hope that we can continue our winning form in the league, tournament and on tour in Manchester.
20.09.2008 David and Goliath tennis tournament!

On Saturday September the 20th, two of our best tennis players played in the annual Prague International Schools Tennis Tournament at the Dobrichovice clay courts.
There were 26 entrants in the open konck out tournament. The winner won the best of 3 sets in all matches played.
PBS entered Denis S in the open boys and Petra K in the open girls, incidentally, these players play for the same tennis club in Prague ‚Cibulka‘, and are both only 12 years of age. The weather was only 10 degrees and every player entered showed a good ability in the game.
Denis started his round one match against a 16 year old opponent from Riverside School and won 6:0 6:0. He treated it like a warm up match for his quarter final opponent from ECP. This opponent was actually Denis‘neighbour, so there was a lot at stake! Denis won the in straight sets 6:2 6:0.
Denis then had one of his toughest matches in the semi finals as he took on the number 1 seed and last years finalist. The opponent from ECP was 18 and was near twice the size of Denis and had very powerful returns and a strong serve.
Denis frustrated the player with his technical ability to place the ball down the lines forcing a lot of unforced errors. Denis won 6:2 6:0.

Going against all odds, Denis was in the final! The final match was against the number 2 seed, and turned out to be Denis' toughest opponent of the day. The ECP player and Denis fought it out on court for 2 and a half hours!
It truly was a final to remember and could have gone either way right up until the end of the match. Denis lost the first set 6:4, he won the second 6:3, and the last set was a battle, however Denis unfortunately lost 6:4.
Well done Denis, a remarkable day in which he played for 6 hours in total!
Petra K had it a little easier as she was seeded number two, as 6 girls showed up to play on the day the number 1 and 2 seeds automatically qualified for the semi finals. They had to wait until the quarters were finished, before playing.
Petra won her semi 6:0 6:0. All attention turned to the final where she and the number 1 seed took to the court. The ECP player was 16 years old and it turned out to be an even battle at the beginning as both players retained their service for the first two games. Petra then broke her opponents service and won the first set 6:2. In the second set she continued to win all the important points even though the games were close. Petra eventually ended up winning the second set 6:0 and became the youngest ever Prague International Schools Tennis Open champion!
Even though she was disappointed with her games, Petra still won at the end of the day.

The performance was a true testament to Petra and Denis‘ commitment to tennis, and I was very proud to present the trophies to them in front of the entire school at assembly. They practice every day and have tournaments most weekends. They serve confidently and make their opponents run, so well done Petra and Denis! Considering the size and age of these two students, a truly colossal David and Goliath effort. Well Done!
Mr. Taufer. Head of PE
17.09.2008 U18 football vs the Russian School of Prague

On Wednesday the 17th of September our PBS under 18 boys team kicked off to a great start to their 2008 season against the Russian School of Prague. Many of our team players spent the summer at football camps across the Czech Republic and were really looking forward to their first encounter of the season on the eve of the Prague International schools Tournament, League and the Manchester trip at the end of the season in November.
We came out confidently even after we conceeded a quick Russian goa. Dan teamed up well with Honza in the mid field to give some great balls up the side to our pace man - Geordan on the wing. Some brilliant attacking defense saw chances all over the field as Norman, Frank and Marek did a great job. At half time we were 4 - 2 up and players came of the bench raring to go. Jamie in particular did well scoring a hatrick as did the captain, Honza. On the whole, the team kept composed, talked to each other well and linked up really nicely, therefore deserving the 9 - 3 win. Man of the match was Norman providing a ' wall of steel defence' - well done Norman.

02.06.08 U18 Football vs ECP

On Monday our 1st XI went to the English College to play a rematch. The weather was lovely and both sides were very even. We are rotating captains towards the end of this year and Frank was chosen to lead the team. As we were trying out many positions for the next school year we made a few mistakes and this led to a little more possession form ECP in the first half. Capitalizing on a our mistake they found the back of the net towards the end of the first half. We then started to gain more composure and control, Honza made a few breaks and made a few pivotal crosses from the right that narrowly missed our attackers. In the second half we dominated the game and started to fight for the ball a lot harder. We had many missed shots at goal in this half and a few missed opportunities from corners as well. The ECP defense was quite strong, and at the end of the day we didn't capitalize on opportunities and were unlucky to get defeated 1-0. Full credit to the team as we are starting to use the ball more and attack confidently as a unit. Man of the match was Honza who was very strong with the ball, Jakub played well on defence and Dan, Marek, and Jordan all played a solid game. Full credit to Dimitrije in his first 11 a side match in goal. We look forward to Riverside this Friday.
29.05.08 U14 Football vs EISP

On Thursday the 29th of May PBS matched age for age against an EISP team. We were very grateful that they came and played us as we need all the games we can get in our build up to the Manchester city football trip in the next school year. Our U14 and U15 teams combined to create some magic out on the field. The long hours that the players have relentlessly put into practising definitely showed. We linked up passes and our communication vastly improved as the players are starting to really understand reading each others game. Even though the final score was vastly in our favour, we were happy to kick the ball around in preparation for this Monday's all important game against ECP. Man of the match was Jordan who banged in 3 goals in five minutes, but the entire team gelled extremely well and produced inspiring football. Excellent guys!
12.05.08 PBS Football vs English College

On Monday 12th May, our 1st XI football team played the 1st XI from the English College of Prague. The English College hired a pitch and we set off to play a game against our rivals on the other side of town. Unfortunately, due to exams, we were not able to field a full strength team. However we still felt strong and were looking forward to the match immensely. We played the first half well and both teams had missed opportunities at goal. Shortly before half time, our key defender, Norman, dropped to the ground following an ECP challenge. Confirmation from the hospital later confirmed that he had unfortunately broken his collar bone. Our team played on, and even though we linked up some good passes from Dan, Marek and Frank, we still conceded two goals as our defence was beaten with relative ease. Dan Marino was our man of the match, shining in midfield using good skill and making the right descisions a lot of the time. We are looking forward to a rematch on this extra large football pitch which should hopefully happen on June 2nd. On the whole we played well and our passing effort was excellent. We dug deep and were unlucky not to come away with a few goals.
12.03.08 PBS Football vs the German School

The stage was set for a great football match. The weather was fine and cool, the 1st XI hadn't come together for a game since December and we had a professional referee booked. We played a 7 on 7 game for 70 minutes. Before the start of the game, the cheerleaders made a wonderful debut performance.
The game started well for us and we dominated in the first ten minutes. However, the Germans out passed us in the midfield and linked together nicely to be leading 3-1 at half time.
After a relaxed team talk after half time we set a winning combination of players to take it to the German School in the 2nd half, and that’s exactly what we did.
With ten minutes to go we capitalised on quick thinking and scored a goal. With 5 minutes to go we scored a brilliant team goal from a cross near the corner and with 2 minutes to go we surprised the German School with a quick goal to capture a well deserved win.

It was truly an incredible game of football; it doesn’t get much better than this!
The team played better and better throughout. However, what has to be commended was the “never give up” attitude and hunger.
Well done boys!
Marek teamed up well with Honza in the midfield. Frank was brilliant on attack and the defenders, Sinisa, Norman and Jakub, helped Jamie well in goal. They cleared very well to a speedy midfield and a sharp attack. We know what we can build on now and are looking forward to more games after Easter.
06.03.08 PBS Badminton
On Thursday 6th March PBS entered a three school Badminton tournament. We had a great time playing many matches in the u14 and u18 categories. Charles Burlin was unbeaten all afternoon in both singles and doubles and Max Romanenko was unbeatable in the singles division. All first seeds played each other and then all second seeds as well. Eliska and Josefina enjoyed their doubles matches as did Ivaana and Petra. We thoroughly enjoyed the games and in the u14 division we came first and in the u18 we came a close second.
05.03.08 PBS Volleyball
On Wednesday March 5th ECP (The English College of Prague) came over to PBS for a volleyball match. We had tactics and plans from our team captain Dimitrije Solar and the team had been training for a few weeks. However, the skill level of some of the older players in the ECP team was too much for us and although we came close to winning the second set, ECP won 3 sets to 0.
Thanks to V Gavrinev for bringing the team over and well done to our PBS volleyballers who certainly appreciated the stiff competition.
03.03.08
PBS Basketball

This was our second to last game of the season and our boys confidently went to ISP in search of another win. The game was one of those greats where the lead swapped constantly and both teams pushed each other to the limit.
Our defence was brilliant with David at shooting guard, and we successfully shot many three point shots and made consistent lay-ups. The game really could have gone either way however we lost 46-44. Mason led from example by scoring 18 points and Kim made some solid breaks to the basket as point guard to score 15. A great game.
29.02.08
Floorball

On Friday a PBS „A“ team and „B“ team set out to conquer other schools of Prague in a floorball tournament that lasted all afternoon. As the u18 teams respectfully won their tournament a bit of pressure was on to emulate the same result. Both teams thoroughly enjoyed the matches played
Special mention must be made to Jakub of year seven who shot two hatricks, (2 x 3 goals in two separate games).
On the whole good sportsmanship was exhibited and our teams came second and fourth out of five teams in total.
28.02.08 Basketball

During Thursday lunchtime a charity basketball match took place between the staff of PBS and our (almost) unbeaten basketball team. The team had won 7 out of 8 games this season but crumbled under pressure when faced with the towering PBS staff. Well that's how it almost happened.
The staff were actually quite lucky and the student team didn’t play well at all. The lead was swapped on several occasions and after 30 mins of basketball the staff won 20-17. Although competitive the game was light hearted - Mr Loddo was sporting an Incredible Hulk singlet that definitely stole the show. On the whole a lot of fun was had and we raised 3600CZK that will go towards the school production of Grease.
(note from webeditor: there are several conflicting reports of this match!)
18.02.08 PBS Table Tennis

Although only two out of the intended four schools made it to the English College of Prague for the inter-school table tennis tournament, there were still thirteen players competing to decide an interschool champion.
Some long and entertaining matches ensued during the round-robin tournament. Despite there being a "sudden death" element to the first round, all of our boys made it through to the second round. This included our top seed Frank Stary, second seed Leilei Wang, and third seed Sony Nguyen Ngoc. Frank, Lei and Sony then had tight games and it was taken to the fifth and final set in all second round games. Unfortunately Sony and Frank were eliminated at this stage. Lei won 12-11 in the final set playing an amazing game with an opponent of similar ability from ECP.
Leilei played well in the semis but unfortunately lost to a player from ECP. However, on points, he was placed third in the Tournament. Well done Lei and full credit to our team for holding their nerves through automatic elimination and playing very well
13.02.08 PBS Basketball
On Wednesday 13th February, the u18 basketball team came away with a home game victory against the only team that has beaten them this season, The International School of Prague (ISP). The boys were quietly confident right from the beginning of the match. However, ISP took the lead early on and we missed many baskets in the first two quarters. The gym was full of the most support we have had at any game to date and this support was to prove crucial later on. After half time we were down by one point 27-26. In the third quarter our game relaxed and the boys started to have fun. Han Soo played exceptionally well at power forward and has sealed himself a spot in the starting five and also gained the man of the match. Kim showed his talent and stole the ball a lot and made aggressinve breaks to the basket. Mason, our captain from centre, was the powerhorse of the team and was up there for the rebounds and made baskets when it counted. Hyun Gyu passed and played well also having a good game. Full credit to the team though as all tried to play well together as a true team.
We took the lead for the first time with three minutes to go in the fourth and final quarter. Han Soo made the breaking basket to give us the lead, then we quickly stole the ball and made a few lay ups. We got posession and waited for the buzzer. An elated crowd and team was delighted to say the least with the victory as ISP is a very strong basketballing school four times the size of PBS.
Well done LIONS! We felt the roar. . . We are now looking forward to a rematch in a few weeks. Please refer to the up and coming fixtures on the website for further games.
02.02.08 PBS Football Under-11 Tournament

On Saturday 2nd February there was an Under-11 Football Tournament at EISP. Even though this was the start of our half-term break, we had enough children signed up to enter PBS teams from Kamyk and Vlastina. The tournament kicked off with EISP vs Vlastina. We started the game very slowly and at the end of the 1st half we were 3-1 down. The boys settled down in the 2nd half and started to keep possession very well, which created good goals from Joe Oliver and Joe Cunningham and earned Vlastina a well deserved draw. The 2nd game was a battle of the PBS sites with Kamyk playing Vlastina. Goals coming from Adam Spano, Bojan Sparavalo and Ethan Dodd gave Kamyk a 3-2 half time lead but five 2nd half goals (4 coming from Joe Cunningham) gave Vlastina an amazing 7-4 turn around. The final and deciding game was EISP vs Kamyk. EISP only needed to beat Kamyk and they would win the tournament. Kamyk started the game playing the best football of the tournament and a hatrick from Vlastina’s helping striker Ethan Dodd gave Kamyk a 3-1 lead. EISP started to improve and with the vocal support coming from their encouraging teachers and parents they brought it back to 5-5. With only seconds remaining EISP had a great chance to win it but Kamyk's goalkeeper David Kroonen produced another excellent save. Kamyk quickly counterattacked and a great individual goal from Bojan Sparavalo made it 6-5. To the delight of the screaming Vlastina team and watching teachers it ended EISP's chances of being champions and made Vlastina the winners with Kamyk taking 2nd place. I was really pleased to see so many children, parents and teachers turn up early on a Saturday morning, despite being on their half term holiday. Every PBS player played great football and deserved the praise they received.
11.01.08 PBS Basketball - Under 14
On Friday the 11th of January the u14 basketballers played an u15 EISP team and for many from PBS it was their first competitive game of basketball. The game was quite tough on both sides in a number of ways, however at least the boys now understand what a foul is! The EISP team had played before but it was good for our boys to face some challenges.
EISP won by over 20 points in the end, but all our players participated fully and improved as the game went on.
10.01.08 PBS Basketball
On Thursday the 10th of January our top basketballers played really well against a university team. The team consisted of University Old Boys and it was really good for both teams to play each other as they were of similar ability; it should also be noted that the game was played in very good spirit.
Under new leadership we played exceptionally well, making good passes and reading the game well with a solid zone defence in place. Mason and Kim both had good games with Shaffeng and Hyun Gyu making an impact when they came on.
The result of all this hard effort was a PBS win 50 - 45.
Well done guys, thats 5 out of 6 games this season.
14.12.07 Slam Dunk Exhibition!

On Friday the 14th of December Mr Taufer set up a small spring loaded trampoline approximately one metre away from the basketball hoop in the gym. Used primarily for gymnastics, the trampolines are about one metre in width and sit 30 cm above the ground. The senior basketball team then proceeded to run and spring off the tramp and slam dunk the hoop.
It was great to see them flying through the air and perform a maneuver that they all love but can’t quite achieve (yet!). Some great reverse dunks were made and some ‘alley oops’ were performed as well. The ‘alley oop’ is when a player passes it to another team mate whilst in the air, and the team mate then proceeds to slam it in the hoop. Mason our captain performed a 360 degree slam which was very impressive, and Kang made some long distant dunks which wooed the crowd. The boys really enjoyed it and the exhibition attracted a good crowd.
13.12.07 PBS Basketball vs the Russian School

For more pictures of this fixture please click here.
Our top basket ballers in the school took on a tall Russian School team. Again our team were unfazed by the height disadvantage!
Our boys took the game to the opponents with a confident attack right from the start. Our assault on the Russians didn’t stop, we made most of our shots as we collected all of our rebounds and our 2/3 zone defense was impenetrable. After the second quarter we were 37 points ahead.
We tried out a lot of combinations during the last two quarters, and even though we were winning comprehensively the boys really enjoyed the game as we played brilliantly as a team. The team was dubbed the dream team by a few of our staff, and it showed as we won 89-31 by full time. The game was a spirited affair as it was our captain’s last game for PBS. Evans is returning to South Africa after many years at PBS. The PBS sports department would just like to congratulate Evans on the rich sporting life that he had at PBS; he won the Decathlon last year and was a strong force in the football team’s defence as well. He lead by example during the basketball season and will be sorely missed at point guard and around the school in general. Evans really inspired a lot of the team and lead from the front, he kept a cool head when it mattered, (like against Riverside when he shot the winning basket with 20 seconds left). With Evans as captain we won 4/5 games this season.
Well done Evans and all the very best for your future..
The team will be lead from the centre by our new student Mason from Detroit who top scored on Thursday and created a new school shooting record of 43 points in one game. Congratulations Mason.
Our cheerleaders made their debut performance after the first quarter, and the team and supporters really appreciated their contribution. They deserved big uniforms, big speakers and spotlights, but it was great to hear and see them in action.
11.12.07 u15 & u19 Futsal Tournament

On Tuesday the 11th of December, we sent an u19 team and an u15 team to the German School of Prague for an International schools futsal, (indoor football) tournament.
It was a four school tournament, incl. The Austrian School of Prague, The Russian School of Prague, PBS, and the hosts. The u19 team played well but unfortunately lost in the first round.
The u15 team played exceptionally well together as a team and pulled off a 3-1 win against the Russian School; Dimitrije Solar scored twice, and Jordan and Marek played a great game as well. Having recently lost to the German school the team put in a spirited and determined preformance and in the end came out on top.
The boys were delighted and deserved to win. This victory is a testament to all the hard work our u15 boys put in during training. With players such as Frank, Jordan, Dan, Norman, Marek , Bogdan and Dimitrije, the PBS football team will be a force to be reckoned with over the next few years!
3.12.07 PBS Basketball - Under 16

Our team led from the start against a tall German School side. We needed a home game and settled into our game (traditionally) after the first quarter. The points then started coming as we started to pull away from the Germans. We scattered their defence with relative ease and subbed in a lot of our players to keep us fresh and always on the ready. Kim and Kang teamed up well as did Mason and Evans, and also Rene and Sinisa. We chopped and changed our defence from full court press to 2-3 zone. This worked well for us. We won the game 66-44. Mason top scored with 28 points, and Evans and Kim both played pivotal roles. Well done guys, 3 games out of 4 this season.
21.11.07 PBS Football - Under 15

PBS entered a team in the u15 indoor football tournament held at the Russian School of Prague. It really was an International affair as there was a school from Bulgaria, the German school of Prague and the hosts. With all teams in pretty much their national dress, the teams were quite pumped up and were eager to play well. We played a strong first game against the Bulgarians and won 4-2. Even Zelim who was half their height came on and did a great job. The next game saw us up against a skilled German side, as we didn't capitalize on our chances we lost 1-0. At this stage of the tournament an interesting moment arose, three teams were locked on points. So in the final game of the Tournament we had to beat the Russians to win the tournament, if the Russians won, they would have won the tournament, and if we drew the Germans would win. We put on a spirited effort however after half time were losing 1-0. Then two minutes before half time Dan and Dimitrij slammed in two goals. The Russian School shot in another goal with 10 seconds to spare. We were on the edge of seats, and it doesn't get more thrilling then this! However the German School won the tournament and we then shot for penalties at the end beating the Russian school 3-2. So we came second overall and in the end the boys were pleased with the result as it could have gone either way. We really improved as a team throughout and well done to all players, Frank (capt), Dimitrije, Dan, Norman, Zelim, Jordan, Bogdan, Sony.
21.11.07 PBS Floorball - Under 16

On Friday the 23rd of November our top floorball team played in a three school tournament at EISP. There was great expactation around the school and our team was very excited about the fixture.
We played EISP first and after a slow start we played really well with some good passing. We won that game 4-2.
Our next game was played with more pace and same good, quick passing was made to secure a three nil lead. ECP then fought back but at the end we won 4-3.Since we won both games, we won the tournament! The mixed team played really well as a team and improved throughout.
Special mention must be made to Paivi, Dominika {our goalkeepers} and also Dima, Max, Bogdan and Milan our captain. Great
camaraderie
was shown by the team and on the whole a great afternoon was had by all.
21.11.07 PBS Football - Under 14 Girls
On Wednesday the 21st our u14girls football team played EISP at home on our new pitch. We played EISP once before and lost to them in a tournament at ISP. Our girls were determined and trained hard during the practices we squeezed in before the match. After a few minutes we were 1-0 down and then we quickly came back with a goal. The girls started nervously but then their confidence grew and they started to pass more.
We scored once more before half time as well. Straight after half time we came back to score once more. An onslaught was then bought on our given to Alice who did an amazing job in goal and saved at least 8 shots.
We ended up winning 3-7 and the girls and our supporters were wrapped. Well done.
21.11.07 PBS Football - Under 16 Boys

Our top team played against ECP in a 50 min game at home. We played an average game, and even though our passing was good we couldn't quite capitalize on our chances around the goal. THe game ended in a narrow 3-2 defeat for the Lions and marks the final outdoor game before the winter break.
20.11.07 PBS Basketball - Under 16 Basketball

On Tuesday the 20th, our top basketball team visited ISP. ISP have a great track record at basketball - last year we lost by over 60 points to the ISP “B” team.
We started off a little slow and tentatively but then relaxed and finished up playing more aggressively. In the end we lost by only 6 points. If it was a game of two halves we would have won the second half easily. Special mention must be made to Mason, Evans, Khang and Rene.
We have a tournament in December and this was a great warm up game for us against solid competition. Well done boys !
19.11.07 - PBS Football - Under 14
Our boys had a good 60 minute game of football and came out on top of EISP 6-3.
We played a 10-a-side game at home, and with good passing made from the midfield we were able to capatalise on our opportunities.
Great teamwork from all led us on to a deserved victory. Well done Lions !
14.11.07 - PBS Football - Under 14
The u14 boys played a hearty game of football against Riverside last Wednesday. The weather added quite a challenge for the boys (and the referee!) as it was snowing and the lines on the pitch were bearly visible. However the boys were eager to play, therefore a twenty minute match was played out. Riverside won 3-1. The boys made some good breaks from halfway and played well. We are looking forward to a rematch in more favorable conditions.
13.11.07 - PBS Basketball - Under 16
Our PBS senior team won a one sided basketball match against the English College Prague 81-29. We had good support chanting from the sideline which aided our victory, and we were happy to play out our new moves against opposition and try out players in various positions. Our captain Evans, teamed up exceptionally well with our new centre Mason.
Rene is also worth a mention as he made a few good shots and blocked very well.
8.11.07 - PBS Under 16 Volleyball
On Thursday 8th November our mixed U16 Volleyball team played in a triangular tournament held at EISP. We started off first up against a tall ECP team. As we had not played a game for a long time we started off quite shakily and ended up losing the first game. Not to be daunted we had a practice in between games and came back to beat EISP in a three set game. Well done to all players as we notably improved throughout the afternoon. Special mention has to made to our captain Dimitrij Solar as he led a vocal and spirited attack against our opponents.
We came second in the tournament and the students enjoyed the games they played.
2.11.07 - PBS Under 16 Football Tournament

The boys school football team played a triangular tournament on our new football pitch with English College Prague and Riverside School. All schools played each other in 25 minute, 9-a-side games with two schools then playing a final.
We started well with a 4-1 win over Riverside and then lost to ECP 3-1. Riverside then drew to ECP placing us in the final. We also had a shooting comp for each school where a hoop was tied to a goal and each boy had five shots from the penalty spot. Our very own Frank Stary won the competition first equal with a boy from ECP with five shots, well done Frank. We then played the final with keen support from the touchline. After half time we were winning 1-0 and then after a reshuffle in the line up we scored three quick goals. Evans scored an exceptional goal from halfway and Marek chipped in a brillaint goal with his left foot. All boys played very well together as a team and this was what won our PBS Lions the tournament.
Our first XI team then took to the podium to enjoy a medal and trophy presentation ceremony. All in all a great afternoon had by everyone.
Our thanks to the parents who helped with the catering.
17.10.07 - PBS Basketball - Under 16
Our PBS basketball team played their first match of the season against Riverside. It was a home game, and the support was well heard from a full sideline.
We started off slow as we were 6-0 down, but then our game relaxed a little and we were on top after the second quarter 22-20. We shot off to a ten point lead after the third quarter, Riverside then lead a hearty assault on us, and with two minutes to go in the fourth quarter we found ourselves down 40-38. After regaining the ball several times we took a couple of throws for three points. Third time lucky, our captain took the ball at hand and shot for three, you could have heard a pin drop on the sideline, and then came the glorious sound of ball in net, the shot was successful and the sideline erupted! With 40 seconds left on the clock, we regained the ball with a fumble from Riverside and landed andother two points to seal the victory with ten seconds to go.
It was an incredible first game and all our boys had at least a ten minute run. We couldnt have asked for a better start to the season, and with three training sessions a week, the team deserved it as well.
15.10.07 - Interschools Cricket

13.10.07 - Under 14 Football Tournament

PBS entered three teams in an Under 14 tournament held at Riverside. Two boys teams were entered and one girls team. The eight-a-side tournament was held on a cold but sunny afternoon. All teams had three games each in their pool and then, hopefully, the finals.
Our boys A team played exceptionally well as they won every game and were the team to beat and made the final. Our boys B team won one, drew one and lost one putting them in a playoff for third, this was the same scenario for the girls. The girls came third after convincingly beating ISP 3-0. The boys B team came third equal after finishing 2-2 against a fired up EISP team. The boys A Team finished first equal against Riverside as it was a 0-0 draw. Our boys played very well and had possession most of the game with more shots at goal then the opposing team.
On the whole a great day out in the sun was had by all, and a big congratulations to all the students involved from PBS in the first U14 invitational football tournament and well done for winning two out of the three trophies presented.
