Science Day and Special Science Assembly- 22/11/2010

The week started with an exciting assembly by Mr. McGuinness who talked about the importance of science and some of the great discoveries made by scientists such as Copernicus and Darwin. Then a guest appearance by one of the senior school chemistry teachers, Mr. Pavelka, caused the children to 'ooh' and 'ahh' as he turned green liquid blue by shaking it and red liquid into the colours of the rainbow with the addition of various chemicals. The children loved every minute and were excited by the prospect of a science day filled with experiments.

The following day the children completed five different activities about a massive range of scientific topics. They made non newtonian fluids; defied gravity with balancing clowns; wrote with fire; flew things; used colour; talked and discussed about animals and plants; identified acids and alkalis with universal indicator; and many more things. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for both children and teachers. Special thanks must go to teachers from the senior school who helped with an activity and also Mses. Trubkova, Markovicova, Berankova and Kubickova from the admissions and marketing department for leading an excellent activity involving marshmallows and spaghetti (the mind boggles)!
